Independence Construction is looking to add a Safety Specialist to our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing support services and assisting managers, supervisors, and employees with the implementation of Company Safety and Health policies and procedures. Regulatory compliance, and continual improvement of the overall performance of the Company. The Safety Specialist will directly report to the Independence Construction Director of Safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work with teams in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the safety policies and procedures.
• Coordinate, implement and monitor the Company Safety and Health Program.
• The Safety Specialist shall provide field support and guidance.
• Assist in developing and implementing strategies for reducing and eliminating injuries, illness and other incidents.
• Provide and assist with training and education to Company personnel regarding health and safety requirements.
• Support and actively participate in safety planning meetings to proactively plan for risk/potential hazards and impacts.
• Initiate, coordinate and assist with safety meetings and training programs to ensure the effective communication of company policy and procedures.
• Initiate, perform and document safety and health inspections.
• Assist the Director of Safety with investigation of injury, illness and general liability incidents.
• Develop and issue regular safety and health correspondence.
• Actively participate in project coordination/scheduling meetings.
• Provide updated information to personnel on company or regulatory requirement changes.
• Coordinate project safety programs with subcontractors, vendors and third-party personnel to ensure adherence to Company safety policies and procedures.
• Serve as a point of contact for any federal, state or municipal safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, including but not limited to OSHA, when the Director of Safety is not available.

Do you have what it takes?

• Bachelor's degree in safety and health or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience.
• Two (2) to five (5) plus years of experience with safety and health in the construction industry is preferred.

• Knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as other state/federal safety regulations and company safety policies/procedures.
• Communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Organization prioritization skills.
• Influence the implementation of the appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
• Ability to positively interact and influence personnel to create a safe work environment.

• OSHA 30-Hour Certification
